From her pristine salt water to her forests, lakes, and rivers, Maine is a gem of nature. Nowhere is that more apparent than on the shores of coastal Maine. Come and enjoy the wonder of this place with a paddle through the protected salt water harbor of Blue Hill and then a hike from the shore, along Peter’s Brook, over the Three Bridges Trail to the lookout over a waterfall fit for a river nymph.
Under the safe guidance and leadership of a Registered Maine Guide, certified in Wilderness First Aid, you will gear up at the Blue Hill Town Dock and kayak out into the island-dotted harbor. Hugging the shore, you will witness the sea birds dart and dive and, if you are lucky, a harbor seal sunning itself on a ledge. About halfway up the harbor shoreline, you will turn into Peter’s Cove and beach the kayaks. From here, you will cross the curvy, country road to the head of the Blue Hill Heritage Trust maintained trails following the locally loved Peter’s Brook. Over the hand-hewn wooden bridges, you will cross over the brook and continue up to the small platform that overlooks the granite waterfall. Upon your return to the shore of Peter’s Cove, enjoy a picnic lunch provided by Peninsula Provisions and perhaps enjoy a quick swim! When your rest is over, you will meander back along the shore watching the picture-book view of Blue Hill Village come back into focus.
